Govind, Asli, and I were talking tonight at the themes of "necessity and surplus" came up. I'll finish this thought later but just thought I'd through that out there.

What were you guys saying about "necessity and surplus"? I'll just try to facilitate some discussion by throwing out a few questions...
The title I gave this, "power and life," is totally provisional, and we could change it anytime. (I've made you all administrators, so feel free to change anything). Perhaps that should be a central thread of our discussions: what should be the theme of the conference? Power, life, surplus, necessity, class, capital, biopower, crisis, nature/society, etc.? Lots of keywords, but what are some of the big questions/problems/controversies/thinkers/struggles that you guys would want to thematize?
Asli, how are you thinking of framing this conference as an extension of the conference in Turkey? Are there particular themes of that conference you'd like to continue or elaborate? Is there a website for that conference that we could check out?
